Ray Matthews, a wide receiver with the Steelers from 1951-59, has been reported missing from Marion County, and has not been seen since 2:20 p.m. ET Tuesday, according to police.
Matthews suffers from dementia, and was last seen on a rural road near his home, wearing a Steelers jacket.

Matthews is 10th in Steelers franchise history with 3,919 receiving yards, and is 13th with 230 receptions. His 17 yards per catch average is third in team history for players with 200 or more receptions. He trails Buddy Dial (21.6) and Mike Wallace (17.2) in that category.

The Steelers lost Jack Butler this spring, a teammate of Matthews through his entire career. Butler was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2012.

Matthews and Butler were both part of a downtrodden period in Steelers history, but in many ways, set the groundwork for the future. Matthews was an outstanding receiver in an era of rushing football, and he was the franchise's second highest career receiving yards leader (Elbie Nickel was first) until Dial began playing in 1959. Even then, it took another decade for his numbers to be topped.
